• Question: are any other members of your family scientists?

      No, they are not. My Dad is a Vet, which is the closest in terms of science, I guess.

      My parents aren’t scientists. They get a glazed over look when I start telling them what I’ve been up to in too much detail. My great grandad was an archaeologist but I never got to meet him sadly.

      Yes, my brother is also a scientist. I don’t know where this affinity came from, though, since neither of my parents are and most of my family are farmers.

      Nope. My Mum is a banker (shock, horror, the root of all evil) and my Dad is a ‘Logisitics Manager’ for a seafood distribution company, which is a fancy way of saying he tells a load of lorry drivers where they need to drive to.

      And being very much from Sunderland, all of my grandparents and great grandparents were either coalminers, shipbuilders or somehow involved in those industries.
