I haven’t worked with any famous scientists but I have met 3 nobel prize winners since I started my PhD. I even stepped on the feet of one of them. That was a little embarrasing.
Yes. My supervisor in Germany was Professor Detlef Weigel. He’s been a director of a Max Planck Institute and is one of the most widely quoted figures in developmental biology as a whole, not just plant development.
Also in Germany, Professor Christianne Nusslein-Volhardt worked at the institute I was at, she is a Nobel Prize winner.
At my current institute there’s some pretty famous scientists who are Fellows of The Royal Society, which is quite a prestigous title. There’s also an MBE (Professor Cathie Martin MBE) and a Sir (Professor Sir David Hopwood) here at the John Innes Centre.
Several who are very famous within science, but I’m not sure any of them are household names in the real world! You might have heard my colleague Prof. Elspeth Germany talking about crystallography on the radio a couple of weeks ago, though.
