I was thinking of the building blocks of life being molecules of protein and DNA, but you’ve taken it to a far more fundamental level with the building blocks of matter and fundamental forces – good question!
I don’t know enough about theoretical physics to give you a good answer – string theory seems to be a reasonable candidate theory but I am not familiar enough with the arguments about its testability. Those experiments need energies way beyond the capabilities of a synchrotron, though, and are more the sort of thing that would be carried out at the Large Hadron Collider.
