All sorts – Sodium chloride (table salt) is found under the Cheshire plains, Blue John (fluorite) is found in the peak district.

You can find Quartz crystals just about anywhere you look, especially in Scottish glens and in the North of England.

You just have to know what you are looking for!

The best way to find out, while having fun, is by hunting them down yourself! You don’t need to go far, your kitchen has salt crystals that you can easily find. But you can also look around outside at the beach, garden, mountains, by the river side… grab a few samples from different places, and take a look….

Here’s a “how to” suggestion that you may want to do at your school:

We grow all sorts of protein crystals, bacterial, human, virus, small molecules. I’m afraid I don’t really know much about rock crystals that we have in the UK. I found a geode on a beach once, it was all orange and sparkly. Give it a google, they look pretty cool.
