      They’re interconnected really. I answer my research questions by doing experiments.

      Hard to have one without the other, but experiments are much more fun than reading scientific papers I find.

      If by research you mean more theoretical, reading-activities kind of thing, I prefer the experiments. But in reality experiments are research too, all part of being a scientist. Once your experiment is done there is a lot of interpretation of the data and the results, comparing with others, etc.
