      Yes. Before I started my PhD I worked on a few projects as an undergraduate research assistant.

      I spent some time in Germany working on these molecules called microRNAs. What these microRNAs do is destroy the products of genes before they have a chance to do anything in the plant or animal they’re inside of. I was interested in how these microRNAs affected the development of a particular species of plant.

      I also worked on a project in Leeds where I tried to figure out whether or not a protein known to be critical for making flowers in plants was involved in any other important things that plants do… like drought tolerance, disease resistance, photosynthesis etc’. It turned out it was!
