I’m a big fan of zoology, or the study of animals.

Particularly birds and bats. I find bats fascinating, there are more species of bat than there are of any other mammal! They all live in amazingly different ways; some eat fruit, some eat insects, some eat nectar and pollinate flowers just like bees. Some even eat fish! Also, the way different bats use very different echolocation calls which relate perfectly to their lifestyle is astonishing.

As well as all this, they’re incredibly sensitive to changes in the environment so they’re great indicators of things like pollution.

Hello to you too, I’m good thanks.

In crystallography I already get to study chemistry, biology and physics so they are the big 3 I guess. Sort of the Superman, Batman and Iron Man of science.

In terms of other specific sciences I’ve always been fascinated by astronomy, the study of stars and the galaxy. Very different to astrology, don’t get those 2 mixed up. There’s so much out there that we don’t understand or don’t even know about. One day it’ll all be about space.

      Hello!

Like Sam, I’m a bit of a frustrated Astronomer! I love astronomy – I can’t get enough of it. I watch TV shows, I have my own telescope, I follow all the astronomy and space news on Twitter and the web…

It’s absolutely fascinating, and really exciting stuff.

Hi there, am fine. A bit tired cause I went hiking yesterday to escape the heat wave that hit the French Alpes!

I enjoy Food Sciences and Medical Biology too, so I guess I tend to enjoy Biology and Chemistry related areas. I also find Nuclear Physics mind blowing, to study such small particles, knowing they are what our world is made of and to find out that they can be in two places at the same time, or jump out of a well without having to climb out of it… it’s just magic and it must be wonderful to work on it.

      Hi, very well thanks!

I grew up in the Cotswolds where you discover a fossil every time you turn over a stone (or it felt like it at the time!) so I developed an interest in looking at fossils and rocks very early in life. I was lucky enough to be able to use a microscope to look at them more closely and this developed into an interest with looking at ever smaller things that is still with me. But I still find fossils and the remnants of prehistoric life to be fascinating.
