BBC Stargazing live is pretty cool – I’m a bit of a frustrated astronomer at heart!

The summer shutdown of our nuclear reactor. When it is working for other scientists to come and do their experiments, I need to be there to help them and things can get hectic with work schedules out of my control and very little time for things like hobbies or even just catching up on my own work. When the reactor stops in August there is also a lot of work to do, but I can manage my own time better, go to conferences and discuss my work in a more relaxed environment, and also of course enjoy the fact that it is Summer 🙂

There’s a conference that happens every year around September time called the Northern Protein Structure Workshop. It’s aimed more at students to gain some experience presenting their work etc, it’s always a lot of fun and you get to meet a lot of interesting people in a more relaxed environment.

Well, I’m always interested to see who is on the list when the Nobel prizes are awarded this year (still not there yet!).
There is also a conference each year for crystallographers called the CCP4 study weekend, which is an annual chance to catch up with both the science and the scientists in our field and that is always a highlight for me.
